What is a preshipment Inspection?

A pre-shipment inspection is a product inspection performed prior the cargo loading to the truck. It is a statistical random check to see if the products ready for shipment is sound in quality, and defect free.



The quality inspector to check the quantity first, to see if the quantities of each items in the order is suffice; And the cartons in good conditions, all neat and clearly marked with proper shipping marks. 


Then open the predetermined numbers of cartons to check the product quality inside, examine the inner packing, the quality of the giftbox, the printings, wrapping, arts, colors, writtings etc. and the products are securely packed for long distance transportations.


the QC inspector will also check the barcodes are readable, correct, and up to the code. The measurements of the boxes, the products, and cartons. the colors, the assembly etc.


There is also a onsite test according to each products, including a function test, to simulate the actually uses of the products are working properly, and there are no surprices. Also some transit stardards, and industrial standards are met.


Finally, and most time-takingly, the visual check for quality defects, like scratch, chip, dirt, marks, crack etc. We classify them into 3 categories: critical, major, and minor defects. then see if such defects are all with the pre-defined limits. Also this is done by random samples.

Why most inspections are Final Random Inspections

from:  Why most inspections are Final Random Inspections For most Pre-shipment inspections , how come most of them are Final Random Inspection , instead of full check, initial inspection, during production inspection ? Normally for common consumer products, we recommend Final Random Inspection s when production is finished, and the products are fully packed into the cartons and are ready for shipment. It is cost-effective to make sure the product quality is up to the acceptable level statistically. Most of the inspections are done in this way, 1 man-day should be enough. If the result is failed, the factory need to recheck, rework the whole batch, and pay for a re-inspection.   We do have a During Production Inspection , when 20-30% of the production is finished.
